Who's interested in going to a Computer Game / Game Development conference in 2010?

It would be good to allow each of us to meet folks in the industry and see what and how folks peddle their wares.  Plus it would be fun!

I hold 2010 out as the carrot because it gives everyone a chance to plan and save.  There are a number of conferences that are starting to occur on the east coast and I think there will be more.  With Atlanta, Raliegh, New York City, and Baltimore all in the game business, and growing, demand for a regional conference has become greater.

Pricing we are looking at anywhere from $50 to $1500 dollars depending on what conference we choose.  There are tips and tricks for getting in cheaper.  Volunteering to help run the conference is one of the ideas.  Commitments range from half a day to the entire conference and discounts can be significant.  In addition volunteering gives you the chance to get to know and work with developers in the current industry.

Jason knows ways to get into SigGraph (sp?) for cheap, perhaps the same strategies can be used elsewhere (i.e. Jason share your knowledge here!)

We could share hotel rooms, share rides, etc.

Anyway.  I'll continue to post ideas here and conferences as they pop up.  At the worst I'll tell you what conference I'm going to, at best well have a RGDS party at a cool conference!

I'm up for going to the Triangle Game Conference in NC.  I just found out I have a former coworker who now works for Insomniac in NC.

I go SIGGRAPH each year... but if I knew which one we were planning on going to, I could plan accordingly.

Count me in.

We will post volunteer opportunities for the conference on the official website, www.trianglegameconference.com, and will post all news updates on the site as well. We hadn’t though of a news email list, but now that you mention it, that’s a pretty great ideaJ! Keep an eye on the site for more updates.

I'd certainly be interested in going to next year's Triangle Game Conference.

Schedule

Wednesday, April 7: 10 am - 5 pm
Thursday, April 8: 10 am - 4 pm

Cost: $398

Looks like they decided to make it game industry exclusive.  Last year it was $50, this year $200 (Standard) $400(Premium).  Add in hotels at $150 a night you're looking at $750-800 for 2 days in the middle of the week.  I won't be able to make it at that price (for me it's that cost +2 days without pay).  I encourage everyone else to go if they want.

Although, a three day pass to PAX East (in Boston) is $50.  More a game event than a game conference.  Hotels are $179 a night so the entire weekend would probably be about $500-$550 unless we put 2 people in each room.  Doing that would probaly cut the entire cost in half to about $250-$300 each (plus gas).

Ouch.  Yeah that's really expensive, I won't be able to save up that much just for a convention.  Too bad too.

And I believe PAX East's 3 day passes are already sold out.  *sigh*
